Headway Hyde Park, our first centre, was opened in 1999 and is situated in the beautiful and peaceful grounds of San Salvador (a home for mentally challenged women). As with both our branches we offer group therapy and activity programmes as well as counselling and support for the attendees and their family members. Administration, fundraising and strategic planning for all the branches is handled at the Hyde Park branch which is considered our Head Office. Creating awareness of TBI and its effects is also one of the main objectives of this branch and this is accomplished by using social media such as Facebook and Twitter as well as by holding monthly meetings (supervised by a trained counsellor) where problems experienced by brain injured people and their families can be discussed in a safe and secure environment.
Headway Soweto was officially opened on the 19th March 2011 in commemoration of World Head Injury Awareness Day. Located close to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Headway Soweto can be found at Elias Motsoaledi Road, Soweto, nestled amongst other charity organisations such as Soweto Mental Health and Soweto ADP. Headway Soweto has grown from strength to strength and is currently open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. Group therapy activity days are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays. The Headway Soweto fieldworkers visit the surrounding community on Wednesdays. Both Headway Khomelela and Soweto hold income generation activity days where they make hand crafted items. Have a look at our income generation page for more information.
