As we well know, brain injury can have a devastating effect on a person. Here at Headway we strive to help those with brain injury regain their dignity and humanity.
The Masiye Phambili Project:
“Masiye Phambili” means “Let us move forward” in Zulu. The Masiye Phambili project consists of a group of enthusiastic people who have suffered a brain injury, who are making and selling a variety of hand made products. Facilitated by Headway Gauteng as part of our therapy programme, the project has been able to generate income for the participants who are not able to secure work in the open labour market. It also serves as an excellent opportunity for individuals to participate in meaningful productive activities.
These are some of the products that our attendees make at present:
Cards made in conjunction with the Heartfelt Foundation (www.theheartfeltproject.com); beaded badges for awareness days; beaded bracelets and necklaces, as well as colourful embroidered sling bags. We also bake bread rolls every Thursday at Khomelela (Alex), which we sell in and around Alex Clinic where we are based.
